[gloat]I might be getting Brittas! Yeah![/gloat]

Yeah, you read that title right. It’s altogether possible that I might get to view me some Brittas Empire in the (admittedly indefinite) future. This might almost make up for being subjected to On The Up.
Almost.
I sent a nice little email to somebody in charge of deciding programming on my PBS station, and the reply I got, while naturally not definite, was pretty good. I can’t quote it verbatim, on account of my WordPress text-writey thing doesn’t let me copy/paste, but the gist of it was that The Brittas Empire is now on a list of Stuff For Them To Possibly Get, altho’ the person who wrote back to me did say it’s possible it might be “out of rights” or not available for distribution.
…Yeah, it’s not much, but it’s something. And if I do see Brittas on my PBS station, rest assured I will review it. I will review it hardcore.
“On The Up”. Oh dear. Not one of Dennis Waterman’s greatest moments.
Don’t I know it.
I mean, they did show it right after Porridge, which was a great show, but still–something like On The Up is hard to forgive of any public television station. I dunno, maybe Dennis Waterman’s funny in everything else he’s ever appeared in, and only this show was execrable.
Tell me: Why do they keep letting him sing closing themes? Does someone out there think it’s “cute” or “funny”? Or does he have to commit a sex act on someone to get to do it? What? It mystifies me to this day.
It’s one of the great mysteries of British television, Arlene. I don’t know whether you’ve seen ‘Minder’ or ‘The Sweeney’, but he’s fantastic in both, so it’s always painful to see him in something that doesn’t really suit him.
But then, ‘On The Up’ doesn’t cover anyone in glory. And John Thaw manages to just about save ‘Home to Roost’, so Dennis should have been better.
